Gorgeous 2023 U.S. Mint Coin Designs
Four classics of U.S. coinage are included in the set: a Kennedy half dollar, Roosevelt dime, Jefferson nickel, and a Lincoln cent. The set also features a Native American Dollar, which has been minted with an annually changing design since 2009. The 2023 dated Native American Dollar coin is an homage to Maria Tallchief of the Osage Nation. Ms. Tallchief influenced the transformation of American classical ballet in the mid-twentieth century and is recognized as America’s first prima ballerina.
The American Women Quarters in the set feature reverse designs honoring the accomplishments of Bessie Coleman (the first African American to earn an international pilot’s license and the first female Native American pilot), Edith Kanaka’ole (an indigenous Hawaiian composer who dedicated her life to the preservation of Hawaiian traditions, lands, and culture), First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt (prominent activist for civil liberties and human rights), Jovita Idar (bi-lingual education advocate, suffragist, and acclaimed Mexican American journalist), and prima ballerina Maria Tallchief. The quarters share a common obverse portrait that was aptly designed by a renowned early 20th-century female sculptor, Laura Gardin Fraser. Ms. Fraser’s rendition of the Founding Father was originally recommended by the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts for the 1932 Washington Quarter.
