Silver Proof Sets from the United States Mint are the higher end versions of the clad proof sets. Both sets contain the same denominations and coin designs, but what differentiates the Silver Proof Sets from the Clad Proof Sets is the fact that the five quarters, half dollar and dime included with each silver proof set are struck in 90% silver, adding to the Silver Proof Set’s overall value.
The 2001-S US Mint Silver Proof Set includes 10 coins, the five state quarters from that year as well as the other five denominations. The state quarters are encased in a separate plastic lens from the other coins, then both protective lenses are slipped inside an outer box featuring the Statue of Liberty.
2001 United States Silver Proof Coin Set
All 10 coins included in the 2001 Silver Proof Set include an “S” mint mark as they were all minted at the Philadelphia branch of the U.S. Mint. The obverse of all of the coins in the set are also inscribed with “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST”.
The five 2001 state quarters in silver are “NEW YORK 1788” (featuring the Statue of Liberty), “NORTH CAROLINA 1789” (featuring a depiction of the First Flight by the Wright Brothers), “RHODE ISLAND 1790” (featuring a sailboat), “VERMONT 1791” (featuring sap collection from maple trees) and “KENTUCKY 1792” (featuring a thoroughbred racehorse). Along with the state names and years they became a state, reverse inscriptions include the release year “2001” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM”. Obverse inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “QUARTER DOLLAR”, accompanied by an image of George Washington.
The other five denominations in the 2001 Silver Proof Set are Lincoln “ONE CENT”, Jefferson “FIVE CENT”, Roosevelt “ONE DIME”, Kennedy “HALF DOLLAR” and Sacagawea “ONE DOLLAR”. The coin’s reverses also include the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”.
