Obverse: The obverse design is the work of Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Named for him, the design features Liberty standing amid the rays of the morning sun holding her torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. “LIBERTY” is inscribed at the top and the date, “2022,” is on the right. The Type-2 design features restored legacy details that include slight updates to design elements such as the Capitol Building, stars, and torch, among others, based on the original bronze cast. Augustus Saint-Gaudens was born in Ireland. He immigrated to the United States and contributed important numismatic designs like this one.
Reverse: Jennie Norris’s reverse design, which was sculpted by Renata Gordon, depicts an eagle in left-side profile. “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” two statutory mottoes, are inscribed above. Along the rim are inscriptions of the name of the issuing country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the coin’s face value, “25 DOLLARS,” and its weight, “1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD.
