Description

2004-S United States Silver Proof set in the original Mint packaging

2004 represented another year of the expanded proof set, with five quarters representing Michigan, Florida, Texas, Iowa and Wisconsin. It also had a special pair of nickels commemorating the Westward Expansion of Lewis and Clark bicentennial. Given that, the face value of this set was higher than in any previous year at $2.96. The issue price of this set was higher than the previous year, too, which had a negative impact on orders overall, but interestingly enough, more silver sets were ordered than in 2003, with a total sales figure of 1,175,934 sets.

While the Lincoln cent, both Jefferson nickels and the Sacagawea dollar are all standard composition, the Roosevelt dime, all five Statehood quarters, and the Kennedy half dollar are minted from .900 fine coin silver – the same composition as pre-1965 silver coinage.
