These Reverse Proofs offer a unique look at the 2018 designs of the coin. They were struck as part of the US Mint’s Reverse Proof Set, of which just 200,000 were authorized. All of the coins in this roll are in GEM Proof condition.
Powerful Sacagawea Design by Glenna Goodacre
Glenna Goodacre created the Sacagawea design that dominates the obverse of these coins. She has her head turned such that it is on an angle, but her eyes look toward the holder. Uniquely, she holds her son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, on her back. “LIBERTY” arches over her image, while “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the national motto, is inscribed to the left.
Jim Thorpe, a member of the Sac and Fox Nation, serves as the theme of the reverse design. Thorpe was an Olympic athlete and star football player. In addition to his portrait, there are images of him competing in football and athletics. Among the inscriptions is “WA-THO-HUK,” his native name, which means “Bright Path.”
