Why add this 1 oz Silver 1989-1993 George and Barbara Bush Commemorative Proof Medal to your collection?
Perhaps no political couple in recent American history was as universally admired as George and Barbara Bush. After serving as Ronald Reagan’s Vice President for eight years, George served one term in office. During that time, he was perhaps best known for leading a global coalition to remove Iraqi forces from Kuwait after it invaded the country in 1990. After his presidency, George made friends with the man who defeated him, Bill Clinton. Married for 73 years, the couple may be best known for their love of each other, and of their family. Commonwealth Mint now honors the couple with this silver medal, which was struck from one ounce of .999 fine silver. It is part of a mintage of 2,500 pieces and remains in GEM Proof condition. This is our exclusive product!
Poignant George and Barbara Bush Design Created by Numismatic Legend Don Everhart
This Medal was designed by now retired U.S Mint Lead sculptor, Don Everhart, who has created many designs for the U.S Mint, including the the reverse of the first curved coins produced by the Mint, the National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coins, which he also sculpted both sides of. The obverse features a touching portrait of George and Barbara Bush looking off into the distance. The couples smiles beautifully capture their optimism and their love of life. Arching over the pair are their names, “GEORGE H. W. BUSH AND BARBARA BUSH.”
The reverse bears a plaque that George Bush kept in his office. It says, “CAVU CEILING AND VISIBILITY UNLIMITED.” A reference to the weather conditions that Navy pilots wanted when flying from carriers in the Pacific, Bush cited the plaque in a letter that he wrote to his children prior to the Gulf War. He told them that his life was CAVU and would remain so until he died because of them. Also incorporated into the design is the White House and a ribbon that bears the years of Bush’s presidency, “1989-1993.”
Each Medal is accompanied by a story card that has been signed by its creator, Don Everhart.
