Obverse: The obverse of the Gold Eagle borrows its imagery from the 1907 Gold Double Eagle coin, the final $20 gold piece minted for circulation in the U.S. Lady Liberty is illustrated within a frame of fifty stars, as she strides forward with an olive branch and torch of enlightenment in her grasp. In the background, the dome of the U.S. Capitol Building is accompanied by the stylized rays of a new day’s sun. Inscribed “LIBERTY,” “2024,” and the artist’s “ASG” monogram. The powerful patriotic image was created by award-winning sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens in collaboration with President Theodore Roosevelt.
Reverse: A left-facing portrait of the U.S. national bird is presented on the reverse. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “10 DOLLARS” and “1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD.” The Type-2 eagle portrait is an example of the work of award-winning graphic designer and U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist Jennie Norris.
