Obverse: Each coin denomination is adorned with a different obverse design: a portrait of Dante Alighieri by Raphael on the 2 Euro, the Vitruvian Man by Leonardo Da Vinci on the 1 Euro, an image of Emperor Marcus Aurelius on horseback on the 50c, a Futurist sculpture by Umberto Boccioni on the 20c, the “Birth of Venus” by Sandro Botticelli on the 10c, the Flavius amphitheater (Colosseum in Rome) on the 5c, the Mole Antonelliana tower by Alessandro Antonelli on the 2c, and the 13th century citadel Castel del Monte on the 1c.
Reverse: The reverse designs are common to all Euro coinage, featuring a stylized map of the European Union nations on the 10c through 2 Euro denomination coins, and the position of the European continent upon the globe on the 1c, 2c and 5c coins.
