The Type-2 Silver Eagle will continue to feature the time-honored rendition of Walking Liberty on the obverse.

Magnificent Type-2 Silver Eagle Design
Obverse: Lady Liberty is illustrated on the obverse carrying a bundle of oak and laurel branches, while walking toward the rising sun, draped in an American flag. Inscribed “LIBERTY,” “2021” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The iconic Walking Liberty image created by award-winning medallic sculptor Adolph A. Weinman is borrowed from the 1916 U.S. circulating half dollar design. Although Walking Liberty has adorned the Silver Eagle since the series’ inception in 1986, the Type-2 releases are the first to include the artist’s distinctive “AW” monogram.
Reverse: The reverse features a stunningly beautiful eagle in flight, with its wings raised in preparation for landing. In its talons, the creature grips an oak branch intended for its nest. The image is bordered by the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER” and “ONE DOLLAR,” with the West Point Mint mark “W” located in the polished field above the eagle’s tail feathers. The Type-2 Eagle Landing graphic is the work of Emily Damstra, a member of the U.S. Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program since 2014.
