Featuring the Treasured Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
Obverse: The obverse design comes from Adolph Weinman’s Walking Liberty half dollar. Liberty carries laurel and oak branches while draped in the American flag as the morning sun rises to the left. Obverse inscriptions note the figure’s name, “LIBERTY,” and also include the date, “2020,” and the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST.” Adolph Weinman was an invaluable contributor to America’s early 20th century numismatic renaissance. His best known works were the Walking Liberty half dollar and the Mercury dime.
Reverse: On the reverse is an adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States that was created by John Mercanti. At the top are thirteen stars, which are arranged in a triangular formation. Below, an eagle protects a union shield. Rim inscriptions provide essential information about the coin, including its country of issue, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” its weight, “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and its face value, “ONE DOLLAR.” John Mercanti spent nearly four decades with the U.S. Mint, including time as its Chief Engraver. During that time, he created more coin and medal designs than anyone else in the institution’s history.
