The 2020 Break-it Brexit coin features a unique visual and literal interpretation of the separation of Great Britain from the European Union. Though we don’t necessarily recommend it, the coin’s unique reverse design features a deeply struck fissure which allows the owner to actually break the coin in honor of the history-making Brexit event. Having a limited mintage of just 10,000 pieces, the 38 mm diameter is composed of brass. Issued by the Republic of Liberia, the innovative coin is a product of the Cape Mint in South Africa.
Symbolic Brexit Design
On the reverse, a rough, intentional gouge divides the distinctive flags of Great Britain and the European Union. The pound symbol is featured on the Union Jack along with the inscription “UNITED KINGDOM,” while the euro symbol appears on the EU flag with the inscription “EUROPEAN UNION.”
The obverse features a proof-like finish depicting the Liberian Coat of Arms, surrounded by the inscriptions “REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA,” “ONE DOLLAR” and “2020.”
