The medal is dual sided, featuring designs that are the collaborative effort of Mint employees. Measuring 21.95 mm in diameter, the Recognition Medal is crafted from nickel-plated steel, which is a magnetic material. The medal includes a specially designed magnet, so either side of the medal can be proudly worn as a symbol of appreciation and unity.

The obverse symbolizes the nation’s gratitude, featuring a maple leaf printed with words of thanks, and a group of three people holding a heart at the center. Inscribed “2020,” “THANK YOU” and “MERCI.”
A heart and maple leaf emblem is located on the reverse, representing the collective spirit of Canadians. Adorned with an innovative light refracting pattern, the heart appears to pulsate when the medal is moved, symbolizing the heartbeat of Canada. Inscribed “CANADA.”
