The American eagle coin program started back in the year 1986 and has become a mainstay in the world of coin collectors! The 2003-W Silver Eagle
This 2003-W American silver eagle bears the very famous and adored design that depicts Lady Liberty on its obverse. This design, created by Adolph A. Weinman, shows Lady Liberty draped in an American Flag walking gracefully as the sun begins to rise. The inscriptions that accompany this design on the obverse of the coin include; “LIBERTY”, IN GOD WE TRUST”, and the year “2003”.
On the reverse of this coin you will see a design constructed by John Mercanti that includes thirteen small stars in the shape of a triangle faced down, each small star representing the original colonies. Below these stars is the depiction of a heraldic eagle. The inscriptions on this side of the coin include; “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “1 OZ. FINE SILVER”, “ONE DOLLAR”, “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, and the letter “W”, which signifies that this coin was minted by no other than the West Point Mint.
This coin is a proof coin, meaning it was minted using a specialized process that entails manually feeding burnished coin blanks into the presses, which are fitted with special dies.
