In the lower left, the sun sets on the horizon. The word “LIBERTY” is inscribed along the rim, and the words “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the national motto, are inscribed at the right. The mintage year is included at the bottom.
Thirteen stars are set in a triangular arrangement at the top of the image. They point down at an eagle, which guards a shield. The eagle holds a ribbon that reads “E PLURIBUS UNUM” (From many, one) in its beak.
