Why add this Bank of Tanzania 2000 Shilingi banknote to your collection?
The Bank of Tanzania introduced the current design 2000 Shilingi banknote in 2011, modifying it slightly from the original 2003 issue. The 130 x 66 mm brightly colorized note features a watermark commemorating Julius Kambarage Nyerere, the first president of Tanzania, who held the office from 1964-1985. Tanzania, located on the Indian Ocean in the Eastern Africa, was formed in 1964 by the consolidation of the independent states of Tanganyika and Zanzibar.
Sensational, Realistic Imagery
The head of a lion and the Coat of Arms of Tanzania are featured on the obverse, with “BENKI KUU YA TANZANIA” above. Serial numbers and the denomination of “2000” are located in opposing corners.
The old Omani Arab Fort in Zanzibar’s Stone Town is depicted on the reverse, framed by palm trees. A foil security mark in the shape of a diamond in the upper right bears the image of a giraffe head.
