Inspiring Liberty and Eagle Designs
Obverse: If you’re looking for the date, it can be found on this side near the lower edge. The design here was originally created in the early 1900s by Adolph A. Weinman, it’s called Walking Liberty. She is depicted carrying a bundle of oak and laurel branches as the stars and stripes flow around her. Weinman’s initials, “AW” first started appearing on the obverse of Type 2 Silver Eagles.
Reverse: The new design is on this side. Unlike the original reverse used for the series, this work of art has a more realistic style. The design shows an eagle carrying an oak branch as it descends from its flight.
