Amazingly Detailed Commemorative Design
Obverse: The obverse depicts a stylized map of the world, which is interrupted by a variety of distinctly shaped cut outs determined by the reverse design. The inscriptions “2022,” “COOK ISLANDS” and “50 CENTS” curve above. The likeness of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II positioned below, beside the inscription “ELIZABETH II.” This rendition of the monarch is known as the fourth definitive coinage portrait, created in 1998 by acclaimed British sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley.
Reverse: The reverse features a forward facing, close up image of the face of the Statue of Liberty, with the areas between the spokes of her crown cut out. The thin border of the coin contains the inscriptions “STATUE OF LIBERTY” and “NEW YORK CITY,” while the series title “LANDMARKS OF THE WORLD” appears on a banner following the curve of Ms. Liberty’s upraised arm.
