Powerful Symbolic Imagery
Obverse: Lady Liberty is depicted on the obverse with an American flag draped around her walking form, while carrying branches of oak and laurel, which symbolize strength, honor and victory. Inscribed “LIBERTY,” “2022,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the artist’s initials “AW.” This image is a revival of the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar obverse design by acclaimed sculptor Adolph A. Weinman.
Reverse: The reverse is adorned with an eagle grasping an oak branch, as it prepares to land with its wings raised. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER” and “ONE DOLLAR.” The design is credited to U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist Emily Damstra, who also created the imagery for the 2018 Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin Program.
