Issue Celebrates the Magic of Carson City
Obverse: The Mint intended to accurately strike Mr. Morgan’s design in this series. To accurately accomplish that goal, they digitized hubs, plasters and coins from the Mint’s archives, so Liberty once again resides on the obverse of this silver dollar.
Reverse: The reverse accurately shows us Morgan’s Heraldic Bald Eagle. The Carson City mint closed 128 years ago. Since that time, no coin has been issued with the iconic CC mint mark. Because Philadelphia didn’t use a mint mark for this series and Carson City ceased striking coins in 1893, this Philadelphia issue placed the CC privy mark where the mint mark would reside.
