Struck in 99.9% pure silver, each proof 1999 coin features Adolph A. Weinman’s “Walking Liberty” design, used on the Half Dollar coin from 1917 to 1947. The reverse displays the spread-winged eagle design created by John Mercanti, the U.S. Mint’s 12th Chief Engraver. These coins were struck in 99.9% silver and the brilliant uncirculated versions of this coin are struck at the Denver, or San Francisco Mint locations. The proof versions are struck at the Philadelphia Mint branch of the United States Mint. This information is almost always the case unless special issues are designed.
Each proof coin features engravings along with inscriptions in the fields of the background. The obverse contains the inscription “LIBERTY” located at the top of this design with the year-date “1999” located at the bottom of this coin. The reverse contains the inscription for the country of origin “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” located at the top of this design and the amount and purity of silver “1 oz. FINE SILVER” along with the denomination “ONE DOLLAR” located at the bottom of this coin. The edge of this coin is presented in a serrated design.
