Featuring the Classic Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
Obverse: The coin’s obverse design is the same as previous years. Adolph Weinman’s image, which comes from his Walking Liberty Half Dollar, features Liberty carrying branches as she strides confidently in the early morning sun. Obverse inscriptions include the figure’s name, “LIBERTY,” America’s national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the date, “2021.” Adolph Weinman is among the most important numismatic designers in American history. His best known works were the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime.
Reverse: Emily Damstra’s new reverse design, which was sculpted by Michael Gaudioso, shows an eagle preparing to land while carrying an oak branch in its talons. Inscriptions along the rim are the same as those that appeared on the Type 1 variety of the coin, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.” Also included just inside those inscriptions is the second statutory motto, “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
