The red kangaroo is Australia’s largest terrestrial mammal, as well as the largest extant marsupial.
A Release Remembering the Legacy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
This release features the familiar effigy of Queen Elizabeth II which now represents her final year in power. Reigning for 70 years and 214 days, Queen Elizabeth II was in power longer than any British monarch. Additionally, her govern is recorded as the second-longest verified reign of any sovereign in history.
Appearing on coins from at least 45 countries, more than any other individual, Queen Elizabeth II has had a strong influence on numismatics for many years. Issued in 2022, this release marks the final year of the Queen’s reign and possibly the last year this well-recognized effigy will ever appear on a legal tender coin.

Iconic Kangaroo Series Design
Obverse: The obverse features the likeness of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by a wide, wave-textured border inscribed with “ELIZABETH II,” “AUSTRALIA” and “1 DOLLAR.” This rendition of the monarch, which is recognized as the fifth definitive coinage portrait of the Queen, was created in 2015 by acclaimed British coin designer, Jody Clark.
Reverse: The bounding figure of an Australian Red Kangaroo is centered on the reverse, contrasted against a stylized burst of the sun’s rays. The image is encircled by a textured frame containing the inscriptions “AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO,” “2022 1 OZ 9999 SILVER” and the Perth Mint mark “P.” The sensational kangaroo image is credited to the late Master Silversmith Dr. Stuart Devlin, who won the competition to design Australia’s first decimal coinage in 1964.
