Featuring George T. Morgan’s Historic Liberty Design
Obverse: Both faces of this coin bear the designs of the historic Morgan Dollar. Morgan made history with his selection of Anna Willess Williams, an American-style model, for Liberty rather than a Greek-style one. She faces left on the obverse wearing a Phrygian cap. Her effigy is encircled by two inscriptions, “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “2023,” and thirteen stars.
Reverse: The reverse features an eagle spreading its wings within an open wreath. The bird holds arrows and an olive branch, and the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” is inscribed above its head. Encircling the image along the rim are inscriptions of the name of the issuing country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and the coin’s face value, “ONE DOLLAR.” George T. Morgan was the US Mint’s seventh Chief Engraver.
