The American Silver Eagle is one of the world’s most popular silver bullion coins. Authorized by the Liberty Coin Act of 1985, these coins are made from one troy ounce of .999 fine silver and first went into production in 1986.
The U.S. Mint introduced a redesign of the American Silver Eagle in 2021. The obverse (heads side) features Adolph A. Weinman’s iconic “Walking Liberty” design, originally created for the 1916 half dollar and faithfully enhanced using modern technology to more accurately reflect Weinman’s original vision, including the addition of his artist’s mark. Struck from 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver with an enhanced uncirculated finish, this special issue also features a Liberty Bell privy mark and a commemorative dual date, “1776 ~ 2026,” celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence. The reverse (tails side) replaces the original American heraldic eagle by former U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti with the new “Eagle Landing” design by Emily Damstra, depicting a bald eagle carrying an oak branch toward its nest as part of the U.S. Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program.
