Stunning Liberty Design by Antonio de Francisci
Obverse: Both faces of this coin were designed by Antonio de Francisci. On the obverse, Liberty faces left wearing a radiate crown. Her effigy splits an inscription of the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRVST.” Rim inscriptions include her name, “LIBERTY,” and the date, “2023.”
Reverse: On the reverse, an eagle is perched on a rocky crag against a backdrop of the rays of the morning sun. The coin’s face value, “ONE DOLLAR,” is inscribed by the bird. The inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” arch over the image, while the name of the coin, “PEACE,” is noted at the bottom. Antonio de Francisci was a sculptor who immigrated to the United States from Italy. The Peace Dollar is his best-known numismatic contribution.
