An iconic Kennedy half dollar, Roosevelt dime, Jefferson nickel and Lincoln Cent are included in the set, along with the Native American $1 coin. The 2022 dollar coin is dedicated to U.S. Army officer Ely S. Parker, a member of the Tonawanda Seneca tribe who penned the surrender documents at Appomattox and served as the military secretary to General Ulysses S. Grant during the Civil War.
The five American Women Quarters in the set celebrate the lives and influence of Maya Angelou (acclaimed author), Dr. Sally Ride (physicist and first American woman in space), Wilma Mankiller (the first female Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation), Nina Otero-Warren (an influential leader of New Mexico’s suffrage movement), and Anna May Wong (Hollywood’s first Chinese-American film star). The obverse of each quarter features the rendition of George Washington that was originally recommended for the launch of the 1932 Washington Quarter by the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts. As a continuation of the homage to American Women theme, the portrait is the work of renowned early 20th century female sculptor Laura Gardin Fraser.
