Timeless Patriotic Designs
Obverse: The American Silver Eagle is a modern coin, but the obverse actually features a design that made its debut in 1916. This design is known as Walking Liberty, and it was created by Adolph A. Weinman, whose initials, “AW” appear on the obverse. The date is below Liberty’s feet as she strides forward with an armful of branches.
Reverse: This side of the coin shows the recently introduced Type 2 reverse design that was masterfully composed by Emily Damstra. Unlike the Type 1 reverse, this design shows a bald eagle descending from flight with a lifelike level of detail.
