Description

Why buy this American 2021-W 1 oz Silver Eagle Type 2 Proof?

No Silver Eagle enthusiast should go without this first ever Type 2 Proof version of the coin. The release marks the 35th anniversary of the series, and one of the original designs, the reverse, has been replaced for the first time. A Landing Eagle design by Emily Damstra makes its debut, as John Mercanti’s Great Seal adaptation gets retired. The new coin also features a novel security feature and Adolph Weinman’s artist mark.

  • This coin is $1 legal tender in the United States.
  • This Silver Eagle was struck on a 1 oz planchet of .999 fine silver.
  • This proof bears the “W” mint mark of the West Point Mint.
  • This is the first ever Type 2 version of the coin.
  • The Type 2 version replaced the Type 1 version in mid-2021.
  • The coin has a new reverse design.
  • Adolph Weinman’s artist mark makes its debut on the obverse.
  • An interrupted serrated edge serves as a new security feature.
  • Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded this piece Proof 69.
  • NGC certified this coin Ultra Cameo.

Patriotic Landing Eagle Design by Emily Damstra

Obverse: The coin’s obverse design, which has been used since the series began, is Adolph Weinman’s Walking Liberty. Draped in the American flag and wearing a Phrygian cap, Liberty carries laurel and oak branches in the early morning sun. Weinman’s artist mark is included on this face for the first time. Obverse inscriptions read, “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2021.” Adolph Weinman was a prominent sculptor, whose work can still be seen in many American cities. He also made numerous numismatic contributions, including designing both faces of the Mercury Dime and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar.

Reverse: Emily Damstra’s new reverse design shows an eagle landing with an oak branch in its talons. The statutory inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is just inside the rim inscriptions. Those inscriptions note the coin’s country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” face value, “ONE DOLLAR,” and metal content, “1 OZ. FINE SILVER.”

Virtually Perfect PF69 UC

This coin received Numismatic Guaranty Corporation’s (NGC’s) second highest grade, Proof 69, which means that it appears perfect to the unaided eye. It was also certified Ultra Cameo, which indicates that it exhibits particularly sharp contrasts between heavily frosted devices and deeply mirrored fields.
