Description
Why does this perfectly graded Last Day of Production and First T2 Production 2021 American Silver Eagle Type-1 and Type-2 bullion coin set belong in your collection?
2021 was an exhilarating year of transition for the U.S. Mint’s American Silver Eagle series. After thirty-five consecutive years of unaltered imagery, the Mint introduced a new design for the coin in July 2021. While the iconic personification of Liberty remains on the obverse, a realistic interpretation of an eagle landing (Type-2) has taken the place of the retired heraldic eagle (Type-1) on the reverse. As a result of the mid-year launch of the new design, the 2021 dated Silver Eagle coins represent the final release of the Type-1 as well as the first release of the Type-2. Knowing the significant of series’ “firsts and lasts” to numismatic collectors, the Mint specially reserved 200,000 of both the final Type-1 and very first Type 2 Silver Eagle coins ever produced!
- This 2021 American Silver Eagle coin set includes one Last Day of Production Type-1 style coin and one First T2 Production Type-2 style coin.
- Each 40.60 mm diameter bullion coin is perfectly struck from 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver.
- The Type-2 coin is crafted with an innovative reeded edge variation as a counterfeit deterrent.
- The coins each feature a hand signed certification label.
- Of the 200,000 final Type 1 Silver Eagles, only 150,000 are eligible for the Last Day of Production attribution.
Breathtaking Silver Eagle Designs
Obverse: Lady Liberty is depicted on the obverse, enveloped in an American flag as she confidently strolls towards the rising sun while carrying long branches of oak and laurel. Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “2021” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” This timeless interpretation of Liberty represents a revival of the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar obverse designed by acclaimed early 20th century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman. For the first time in the history of the Silver Eagle series, the Type-2 style coin recognizes the artist, in the form of an “AW” monogram beneath the motto.
Type-1 Reverse: The reverse of the Type-1 Silver Eagle is inspired by the Great Seal of the U.S., depicting a heraldic eagle beneath thirteen stars, with a cluster of arrows and an olive branch in its grip. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” “ONE DOLLAR” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” The design is the work of renowned medallic sculptor John Mercanti, the U.S. Mint’s currently retired 12th Chief Engraver. Type-2 Reverse: The Type-2 Silver Eagle reverse features the image of an eagle grasping a single branch of oak, with its wings raised in descending flight. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER” and “ONE DOLLAR.” The eagle lending graphic was created by Emily Damstra, a U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist since 2014. Ms. Damstra’s design was three-dimensionally transformed into a masterpiece suitable for coinage by sculptor Michael Gaudioso, who has designed/sculpted more than forty coin and medal images since joining the Mint in 2009.
