Patriotic American Eagle Imagery
Gold Eagle design: The obverse of each of the four Gold Eagle coins features a rendition of Lady Liberty marching forward with an olive branch and a flaming torch in her grip. The timeless image first appeared on the 1907 Gold Double Eagle coin designed by acclaimed sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Each reverse features the Type-1 family of eagles wildlife scene created by sculptor Miley Busiek.
Silver Eagle design: On the obverse of the lone Silver Eagle coin, Lady Liberty is depicted draped in the folds of a billowing American flag while walking towards a new day’s sun. This interpretation of Ms. Liberty is borrowed from the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar designed by renowned early 20th-century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman. The Type-1 heraldic eagle graphic created by the U.S. Mint’s 12th Chief Engraver John Mercanti is centered on the reverse.
