Obverse: Lady Liberty is illustrated on the obverse walking towards a new day’s sun while enveloped in a gracefully flowing American flag. She carries a bouquet of oak and laurel branches, which are emblematic of strength, honor, and victory. Inscribed “LIBERTY,” “1992” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The stunning patriotic image is adapted from renowned sculptor Adolph A. Weinman’s iconic design for the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
Reverse: A heraldic eagle is centered on the reverse, with an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its grip. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” “ONE DOLLAR” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” This image is the identifying element of the Silver Eagle Type-1 style, which was minted from 1986 until mid-2021. The design was created by John Mercanti, the 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver.
