Mexican Gold and Silver Coins

Mexican Gold and Silver Coins are almost as numerous and various as those from the United States. Mexican coins can be made of gold or silver, although their modern circulating coins have a clad composition. Of all the coins produced by Mexico today, one of the most well-known is the Silver Libertad. The Mexican Silver Libertad is a government issued bullion coin. This coin contains 1 kilogram of silver, so it is much larger than a standard 1 Troy oz. Libertad. The 1 kilo size has low mintage figures when it is produced, typically in the 3 digit range. To put this in perspective, in recent years American Silver Eagles have been in the mid eight digit range.

For bullion buyers, formerly circulating Mexican gold coins are an excellent choice. These coins have very reasonable premiums and are quite abundant since they were produced for circulation. The Mexican gold coins are available in a variety of weights and denominations. There are options that are affordable for everyone, regardless of your budget. These coins can contain as little gold as just under 1/20 Troy oz. such as the Dos Pesos or as much as nearly 1 and ¼ Troy oz. in the 50 Pesos coin. Featuring the striking Winged Victory on the obverse and the Mexican coat of arms on the reverse, the design remains unchanged and instantly recognizable. These coins are struck in .999 fine silver and available in sizes ranging from 1/20 oz to 1 kilo.

While bullion versions appeal to investors for their purity and global recognition, Proof and Reverse Proof Libertads are favored by collectors for their limited mintages and exceptional visual quality. Proof editions often have production runs of under 10,000 coins per year, making them highly sought after on the secondary market.

Mexican Gold Coin Options

Mexico’s gold coinage includes both modern bullion and historic circulation pieces. Formerly circulating gold coins, like the 2, 10, and 20 Pesos, offer solid gold content and affordability.
