Most countries no longer mint silver coins for general circulation due to the high cost of silver. Silver is now typically used for bullion, commemorative, or collector’s coins, not for regular circulation.
However, there can be unique exceptions. For instance, Mexico’s 50- and 100-peso coins are the only circulating coinage in the world to contain any silver; however, they rarely circulate due to their high silver content cost, frequently exceeding the coin’s 100-peso face value.
Most countries abandoned using silver in their circulating coinage at some point in the 20th century with the rising costs of silver mining, production, and value.
