Found throughout the Northern Hemisphere and particularly in the Himalayan Mountains, the Tibetan Plateau and other high-altitude landscapes, the Golden Eagle is among the largest of the Eagle species. It’s known for its massive six-to-seven-foot wingspan, beautiful dark brown feather with golden-brown napes, and use in falconry. In Chinese culture, these raptors are viewed as symbols of strength, heroism and freedom, and carry a mythical aura due to their long lifespan, hunting abilities, nimbleness and sharp vision.

What really stands out on this year’s edition is the stunning high-relief imagery of the Golden Eagle on the reverse that literally leaps from the frosty proof surfaces! The relief is so spectacular that it almost appears as if you could pluck the eagle right from the reverse’s surface and walk up the stairs to the Temple of Heaven on the obverse! Reverse designer Zhu Xihua, creator of handsome reverse design, currently works for China’s Shanghai Mint and is renowned for his animal artwork.
