China’s Legendary Golden Eagles
Found throughout the Northern Hemisphere and particularly in the Himalayan Mountains, the Golden Eagle is among the largest of the Eagle species, known for its massive wingspan, beautiful brown coloring and use in falconry. In Chinese culture, these raptors are viewed as symbols of strength and heroism, and carry a mythical aura due to their long lifespan, hunting abilities and nimbleness.
Spectacular High Relief Design
What really stands out on this year’s edition is the design portraying a Golden Eagle soaring high above its native Himalayan Mountains habitat on the reverse. The detail is amazing, and you can make out each individual feather. The obverse is equally impressive with its image of China’s iconic Temple of Heaven.
Lifting these designs to even greater heights is incomparable high relief that is nothing short of stunning—especially on the silver Kilo piece which, because of its size, was struck in jaw-dropping ultra-high relief. It almost looks like two layers of high relief on one proof! Struck in 99.9% Gold and Silver

Magnificent Proof and Reverse Proof Finishes
Each Gold and Silver Proof has been specially manufactured using polished dies and selected planchets (blanks) to provide the desired mirror effect. The dies used to strike these Proofs also received a special process that allows for brilliant contrast between the frosty devices and polished backgrounds. The one-ounce gold features a reverse-proof finish on the eagle side—with mirrored raised elements and frosted backgrounds—which further enhances the design.

In fact, you can only get these Proofs with a First Day of Issue (FDI) designation here! The number of First Day of Issue proof coins is small compared to the overall population of proofs.
