Cleverly Integrated Allegorical Imagery
Obverse: His Majesty King Charles III is depicted facing left on the obverse. The guilloche patterned field surrounding the effigy contains the inscriptions “CHARLES III,” “D.G. REX. F.D.” and “2 POUNDS.” The portrait, which received the King’s personal approval, was created by award-winning British sculptor Martin Jennings in 2022.
Reverse: The profile images of Britannia and Liberty appear on the reverse, with their gazes focused in opposing directions (reminiscent of a playing card). Britannia, as the personification of Great Britain, wears a traditional Corinthian style helmet, while clutching a trident. Lady Liberty, the metaphorical representation of the United States, is depicted with an array of stars in her hair, while grasping a flaming torch of enlightenment. Inscriptions include “BRITANNIA AND LIBERTY,” “2024” and “1 OZ 999 FINE SILVER.”
