Gorgeously Detailed Una and the Lion Rendition
Obverse: The obverse is graced with a portrait of His Majesty King Charles III in a left facing pose. Inscriptions include “CHARLES III,” “D.G. REX F.D.,” “ST. HELENA” and “1 POUND.” Credit for the royal effigy belongs to renowned British sculptor Glyn Davies.
Reverse: The beautiful Princess Una and her lion companion are rendered as an integrated image on the reverse. Una’s hair and the lion’s mane are artfully entwined and threaded with varied foliage and floral elements. The innovative image was created by award-winning wildlife artist Carroll Hutchings. The inscription “UNA & THE LION” and the year of issue 2024, represented as the Roman numerals “MMXXIV,” appear near the lion, while the East India Company’s “EIC” Mint mark is nestled within the princess’ windswept locks.
