Why purchase this NGC certified Great Britain 2024 £2 1 Ounce Silver Britannia?

Since Roman times, Britannia has represented Britain on coinage. Over the years, she has symbolized the country’s naval strength, resolve, and steadiness even as Europe and the world went through particularly turbulent times. Now, you have the chance to share in this rich tradition with this £2 2024 Silver Britannia from the British Royal Mint. 2024 is notably just the second year that King Charles III has appeared on the obverse of the series.

  • This coin is £2 British legal tender.
  • This piece was struck from one Troy ounce of 99.9% fine gold.
  • This coin was struck at The Royal Mint in Great Britain.
  • There are anti-counterfeiting security features on the reverse.

Stunning Britannia Design by Philip Nathan

Obverse: The coin’s obverse features a portrait of reigning monarch King Charles III. The work by Martin Jennings shows him in left-side profile with a stern countenance and without a crown. His effigy is encircled by inscriptions of his name and abbreviated Latin title, “CHARLES III D G REX F D,” as well as the coin’s face value, “2 POUNDS.” Martin Jennings is a well-known sculptor who has designed statues of Philip Larkin and John Betjeman, among others.

Reverse: Britannia stands confidently on the waves in Philip Nathan’s historic reverse design. Wearing a Corinthian helmet and a garment that blows in a strong wind, she holds an olive branch while balancing her trident and shield. Her name, “BRITANNIA,” is inscribed on the rim frame along with the coin’s date, “2024,” and metal content, “1 OZ 999 FINE SILVER.” The four security features on this face include tincture lines accenting Britannia’s shield, a latent image that changes from a padlock to a trident depending on the angle it is viewed from, surface animation that brings the waves in the background to life, and micro-text which states, “DECUS ET TUTAMEN,” or “an ornament and a safeguard.” Philip Nathan was a student at the Guildford School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools. He went on to receive a gold medal from the American Numismatic Association.
