Why order this NGC certified Great Britain 2024 £2 1 Ounce Silver Britannia?

One of Europe’s greatest numismatic traditions continues with this 2024 1 oz Silver Britannia, which marks the second year of issue that King Charles III appears on the series. Since Roman times, Britannia has represented the island on coinage. In recent centuries, she has come to symbolize Britain’s naval prowess and her steadiness and strength in troubling times.

  • This piece is £2 legal tender in Great Britain.
  • This coin was struck from one Troy ounce of 99.9% fine silver.
  • This piece was struck at The Royal Mint in Great Britain.
  • The reverse features anti-counterfeiting security features.

Enduring Britannia Design by Philip Nathan

Obverse: Gracing the obverse is Martin Jennings’s portrait of King Charles III. The new monarch bears a stern countenance while facing left without a crown. His effigy is encircled by inscriptions of his name and abbreviated Latin title, “CHARLES III D G REX F D,” and the coin’s face value, “2 POUNDS.” Martin Jennings specializes in bronze and stone sculpture. Some of his most famous subjects have been John Betjeman and Philip Larkin.

Reverse: The reverse features a stunning Britannia design by Philip Nathan. Donning a Corinthian helmet and a garment that blows in a strong wind, Britannia stands powerfully on the waves while balancing her trident and shield. Inscriptions on the rim frame include the central figure’s name, “BRITANNIA,” the coin’s date, “2024,” and its weight and purity, “1 OZ 999 FINE SILVER.” The four security features that appear on the reverse include tincture lines accenting Britannia’s shield, a latent image that alternates from a padlock to a trident depending on the angle it is viewed from, surface animation that brings the waves to life, and micro-text, “DECUS ET TUTAMEN,” that means “an ornament and a safeguard.” Philip Nathan is a recipient of a gold medal from the American Numismatic Association and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.
