Powerful Britannia Design by Philip Nathan
Obverse: King Charles III features in left-side profile on the obverse. The design, which was created by Martin Jennings, shows the monarch bearing a steady, reserved countenance. Rim inscriptions offer his name and abbreviated Latin title, “CHARLES III D G REX F D,” and the coin’s face value, “10 POUNDS.” Martin Jennings is a renowned sculptor who specializes in working with bronze and stone.
Reverse: Philip Nathan’s iconic Britannia design graces the reverse. The central figure stands on the wave, balancing her shield and trident while wearing a Corinthian helmet and holding an olive branch. Rim inscriptions include her name, “BRITANNIA,” the date, “2024,” and the weight and purity of the coin, “1/10 OZ 999.9 FINE GOLD.” The four security features that appear on the reverse include tincture lines that accent Britannia’s shield, a latent image that transitions from a padlock to a trident, surface animation that affects the waves in the background of the designs, and micro-text that states “DECUS ET TUTAMEN,” meaning “an ornament and a safeguard.” Philip Nathan studied at two of the elite schools of art, the Guildford School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.
