Gorgeous Design Details
Obverse: The obverse is graced with a right-facing effigy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The portrait is encircled by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II” and “DEI. GRA. REGINA. FID. DEF.,” which translates as “Queen by the Grace of God, Defender of the Faith.” This rendition of the late monarch was designed by acclaimed British sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998.
Reverse: The reverse features an image derived from the Royal Arms of Queen Elizabeth II, a heraldic shield adorned with symbolism honoring the countries of Great Britain, with the St. Edward’s Crown above. The emblem is surrounded by a wreath of laurel, which is an homage to the “Young Head” sovereign coins issued by Queen Victoria, the great-great-grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II, who had celebrated a Golden Jubilee in 1887. Renowned British calligrapher, illuminator, and heraldic artist Timothy Noad created this powerful interpretation of the Royal Arms.
