Exceptionally Detailed Canadian Peace Dollar Design
Obverse: The right facing effigy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II created in 2003 by acclaimed Canadian portrait artist Susanna Blunt is centered on the obverse. The inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “CANADA,” “D.G. REGINA” and “50 DOLLARS” encircle the portrait, along with a crisp, laser etched geometric field pattern which only appears on the 5 oz. coin of the series.
Reverse: Lady Peace is depicted as a young woman on the reverse with a wreath of maple leaves and olive branches upon her head, which are emblematic of peace, order and good government. The background features the coin’s exciting rose gold pulsating texture. “A MARI USQUE AD MARE” curves above, which translates from Latin as the Canadian national motto “From Sea to Sea.” Additional inscriptions include “PAX” (The Latin word for peace), “2023” and the artist’s initials “ST.” The elegant image is the work of Susan Taylor, a retired RCM senior engraver, and a 2016 recipient of the American Medal of the Year Award.
