Iconic Red Kangaroo Design by Dr. Stuart Devlin
Obverse: Gracing the coin’s obverse is a left-side portrait of King Charles III by Dan Thorne. As is tradition, he faces in the opposite direction of his predecessor, Queen Elizabeth II. Encircling the image are three rim inscriptions, which read, “CHARLES III,” “AUSTRALIA,” and “1 DOLLAR.” Dan Thorne is a Welsh illustrator who works at the British Royal Mint. He holds a degree from Swansea Metropolitan University (today Swansea College of Art, UWTSD).
Reverse: The reverse features Dr. Stuart Devlin’s iconic red kangaroo design. The beloved animal is encircled by stylized rays of sunlight. Inscriptions on the rim frame read, “AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO,” “2024,” and “1 OZ 9999 SILVER.” Dr. Stuart Devlin was an Australian goldsmith, silversmith, and medalist.
