Stunning Patriotic Imagery
Obverse: A magnified, forward-facing view of the serene visage of the Statue of Liberty is showcased on the obverse. The word “LIBERTY” sweeps above, mingled with the seven spokes of her radial crown. The seven points of the crown are emblematic of the world’s seven seas and seven continents. Additional inscriptions include “2005,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” This interpretation of the statue is the work of John Mercanti, the currently retired 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint.
Reverse: On the reverse, a majestic eagle is depicted soaring above the curvature of the earth, with a stylized sun rising beyond. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “.9995 PLATINUM 1 OZ.” and “$100.” The image was created by Thomas D. Rodgers Sr., a prolific coin and medal designer/sculptor for the U.S. Mint from 1991 until 2001.
