Description

Why purchase this pristine Burnished 2008-W American Silver Eagle Reverse of 2007 coin?

The American Silver Eagle series was introduced by the U.S. Mint in 1986. For the 2008 release, the Mint slightly altered the lettering style on the reverse, a change that was most noticeable in the letter “U” formed with a serif in the word “UNITED.” A significant, unintentional variation of the series occurred in 2008, when a small amount of the burnished-style Silver Eagle coins were minted with the reverse of 2007, featuring the non-serif “U.”

  • This is a 2008-W American Silver Eagle Reverse of 2007 variety coin!
  • The 40.60 mm diameter coin contains 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver.
  • The silver dollar features an elegant satin-like burnished finish.
  • The coin is a West Point Mint product.
  • The coin is perfectly graded.
  • Final mintage is reported to be a mere 46,318 pieces.

Breathtaking Silver Eagle Imagery

Obverse: The obverse features the timeless rendition of Lady Liberty created by renowned early 20th-century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman for the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Ms. Liberty is illustrated walking towards the rising sun with an American flag artfully draped around her form while carrying an oak and laurel bouquet. Inscribed “LIBERTY,” “2008” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”

Reverse: A heraldic eagle is depicted on the reverse gripping an olive branch and a bundle of arrows. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “W.” This classic image is the defining element of the Type-1 style Silver Eagle that was issued from 1986 until mid-2021. The design is credited to John Mercanti, the currently retired 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver.
