The U.S. Mint estimates that 100,000 to 200,000 examples of the George Washington Presidential Dollar were released missing the edge lettering.

Handsome Presidential Dollar Design
Obverse: An intricately detailed image of George Washington appears on the obverse, facing slightly left. The inscription “GEORGE WASHINGTON” curves above the portrait, while “1ST PRESIDENT 1789-1797” sweeps below. The likeness of the President was created by Joseph Menna, the 14th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint.
Reverse: The reverse design is common to all releases of the Presidential Dollar series. The landmark Statue of Liberty is depicted, in a dramatic view from below. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “$1.” The design is the work of Don Everhart, a prolific U.S. Mint Medallic Artist from 2004 until 2017.
