Elegant Beauty of the American Silver Eagle

Obverse: The obverse features the allegorical interpretation of Liberty created by acclaimed early 20th-century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, an image that originally appeared on the circulating Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin in 1916. Ms. Liberty is depicted walking towards a new day’s sun while enveloped in an American flag. She carries a bouquet of oak and laurel branches, which are symbolic of strength, honor, and victory.  Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “2013,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”

Reverse: A heraldic eagle is illustrated on the reverse, with a cluster of arrows and an olive branch in its grip. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” “ONE DOLLAR” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” Designed by currently retired 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti, the classic heraldic eagle image is the primary defining element of the Type-1 style Silver Eagle that was issued from 1986 until mid-2021.
