Reverse: An eagle is centered on the reverse with a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its grasp. This iconic heraldic eagle image, created by 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti, is the primary characteristic of the Type-1 style Silver Eagle issued from 1986 until mid-2021. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” “ONE DOLLAR,” the West Point Mint mark “W” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
