Description

Why add this pristine 30th Anniversary Burnished 2016-W American Silver Eagle coin to your collection?

The U.S. Mint launched the annually issued American Silver Eagle series in 1986. In tribute to the series’ thirtieth year of issue in 2016, the Mint released the first, and to date only, version of the coin to feature a smooth edge with incuse lettering. The exciting lettered edge, which announced the Silver Eagle’s “30TH ANNIVERSARY,” was only struck on the proof and burnished (uncirculated) varieties of the coin.

  • This 2016-W American Silver Eagle is a West Point Mint product.
  • The coin features the distinctive “W” Mint mark and a satiny burnished finish.
  • The 40.60 mm diameter coin contains 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver.
  • The perfectly graded coin is a United States legal tender with a one-dollar denomination.
  • The silver dollar coin is minted with a smooth lettered edge.
  • The coin is one of 216,501 minted.

Breathtaking Silver Eagle Imagery

Obverse: The obverse illustrates Lady Liberty strolling towards a dawning sun while draped in an American flag, with the word “LIBERTY” curving above. Additional inscriptions include “2016” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” This time-honored rendition of Liberty first appeared on U.S. coinage exactly 100 years earlier, on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. The image was created by renowned sculptor Adolph A. Weinman.

Reverse: Centered on the reverse is a heraldic eagle grasping an olive branch and arrows, designed by John Mercanti, the 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver. The heraldic eagle defines the Type-1 Silver Eagle, which was issued from 1986 until mid-2021. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “W,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
