Magnificent Silver Eagle Design
Obverse: The obverse depicts Lady Liberty elegantly wrapped in an American flag, carrying a stunning bouquet of oak and laurel branches as she walks towards the rising sun. This interpretation of Liberty is borrowed from the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar designed by acclaimed architectural and medallic sculptor Adolph A. Weinman. Inscribed “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2014.”
Reverse: On the reverse, an eagle is illustrated clutching an olive branch and arrows, with thirteen stars above. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” “ONE DOLLAR,” the West Point Mint mark “W,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” The patriotic image was created by John Mercanti, the U.S. Mint’s 12th Chief Engraver. The iconic Type-1 heraldic eagle graphic adorns all Silver Eagles minted from 1986 until mid-2021.
